A new book of Comparative Education, by Prof. J. L. Garcia Garrido
Abstract
With these lines we present a new book on Comparative Education, excellent for university purposes, which have been lacking such a work for many years. The author has used all his competence and professional experience to give us a book which is at the same time synthesis and investigation. As indicated in its title, it consists of two parts. In the first (synthesis) it describes the principal characteristics of Comparative Education as a science: its genesis and actual position, its scientific nature, its methodology and its relation to the rest of the educational sciences. In the second part (investigation) it does not limit itself, as others have, to describing the educational systems (which it calls “public systems of education”) of different countries but has created a wide range of authentic “comparative” studies on some elements of these educational systems. It deals with the handling of these, the quality of the education, creativity, formation and training of the teachers, education and use, and the future of such systems. The formal aspects of the work are also dealt with very carefully in a way which constitutes a great contribution to the studies of Comparative Education. Keywords
