Abstract

The Unesco has made a considerable contribution to the development of adult education. From 1949 to 1985 the LJnesco has held four International Conferences on this subject, and in these it has developed the concept of adult education -inscrived within that of continuing education- whose main objectives are the preservation of peace, and the promotion of communication and understanding between people and nations. To these objectives we can also add the struggle against injustice, ignorance and poverty. In this article we pay special attention to the concepts of functional literacy and the education of the labour class.
