Can schools expand people freedom?
Abstract
Questions such as who are the schools for?, which conditions do they have to acomplish?, or what’s their sense from the user’s point of view?, among many others, reflect a deep debate on the schools’ nature, as well as on evaluation rooted in social justice principles. This debate, far from being cancelled, appears to be more crucial as societies transform themselves in others more diverse and unequal. This article wishes to contemplate the schools and their social functionality from a new point of view, analysing their current contextual constrictions, inspired by the work of the Indian Nobel economist award Amartya Sen.Keywords
