Study on the understandings of teaching students about cultural diversity
Abstract
In spite of being recognised in legislation, attention to cultural diversity, is still more a
desire than a reality. Future teachers do not have an appropriate knowledge about the characteristics of minority ethnic children as to how to provide the educational attention they
need. This paper presents the main results and conclusions carried out among teaching students. The work is a deep study of the attitudes the students have about cultural diversity and its implications on education. This research project is part of a larger survey in which we have used an attitude scale and a semantic differential and the group discussion as instruments of gathering data. In this article we only present the results obtained trough the attitude scale. The most relevant conclusions of this study shows that students do not reject cultural diversity but they have a very poor consciousness about it. However, in general terms their attitude is rather positive.
