Self-directed learning and entrepreneurship: An approach based on current university practice
Abstract
Entrepreneurship, understood as the generation of ideas that become reality, is a basic skill that the European Union itself is trying to develop in students. The same applies to digital skills, which have been taught at all levels of education for some time now. From the combination of both comes digital entrepreneurship, which is directly related to self-directed learning, as it requires individuals to learn to manage their own studies. This study analyses digital entrepreneurship among final year undergraduate students to understand how they also self-manage their learning, specifically in terms of management. The sample consisted of 1108 students from public universities in the region of Murcia. 64.17% of the students were female, and the average age was 23. The students proved themselves capable of learning from their own experiences, and considered planning to meet deadlines to be essential. Differences were found in relation to gender and the academic discipline of the students involved in the study. More research is needed to analyse the relationship between entrepreneurship and self-directed learning.
