Presentarse como candidato a la dirección de departamento universitario: una decisión compleja

Resumen

Cuando un director de un departamento universitario cesa en sus funciones, los miembros del mismo saben que necesitan un sucesor, de manera que, unos meses antes de que este hecho suceda, hay movimientos para lograr que se presenten personas candidatas para ocupar dicho cargo. Sin embargo, el proceso, lejos de ser fácil, previsible o lineal, está plagado de controversias y dificultades. En el presente artículo nos planteamos conocer, mediante entrevistas en profundidad, las opiniones de directores en ejercicio de departamentos universitarios de educación de toda la geografía española sobre la decisión de optar a ejercer la mencionada ocupación. Tras contactar con todas las personas implicadas, se pudieron desarrollar diecisiete entrevistas con directores experimentados y noveles. Los resultados muestran que los candidatos tienen razones muy variadas para presentarse y que en algunos casos repiten la experiencia, puesto que suele ser fácil para ellos formar equipo y sienten que predomina la continuidad en los estilos directivos. Debemos concluir afirmando que es necesario realizar una formación específica sólida y una investigación más amplia sobre el tema que contribuya a identificar las posibilidades y los límites reales de las direcciones departamentales, para que los miembros de los departamentos conozcan mejor a estos necesarios y relevantes cargos.
