The participation of school Boards for the democratic management of public school
Abstract
This paper analyzes the effectiveness of school boards’ participation as a mechanism of democratic management at public schools in the city of Maceió/Alagoas/Brazil, and as a way to foment the construction of a democratic culture. Firstly, it is presented the research object and why those school boards have been chosen to be the objects of the study. Secondly, it is described the research method employed: a theoretical and empirical approach. And finally, there are stated the findings, final considerations and proposals for action to get a democratic school. As most significant findings, we emphasize the democracy as a process under construction, fostered by the acts of collective subjects and school boards with limited political competence for carrying out consciously their roles and functions.
