Transfer of Continuous Training in the Construction Industry and the Hotel Industry
Abstract
Continuous training is a fundamental element that enterprises use to achieve their goals. Moreover, public policies at both the national and international level have promoted continuous training and lifelong learning in recent years. Research on training efficacy has shown that in order for training to have a real impact it is necessary to apply what has been learned in the workplace, that is, it must be transferred. Several authors have proposed different models to evaluate the level of training transfer, including the conditions that facilitate this transfer. In this paper, we analyze European and Spanish statistical data in order to evaluate the situation of continuous training policies in enterprises of two of the economic sectors hit hardest by the economic crisis: the construction industry and the hotel industry. The data are compared with the results of a study on the evaluation of training efficacy in Spain through transfer factors to link the results of transfer factors with other characteristics of training policies in these sectors. Some measures to improve training efficacy, which can be useful to change public and private training policies across economic sectors, are proposed. Keywords
